Lawson goes to DC

With spring upon us, we decided to take the first family road trip down 95 to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival and to see Ethan's cousin Erin. What a great trip all around. Lawson did great in the car and we only had to stop once to feed him. While the weather was a little patchy, we managed to have a really good time. Friday night was Lawson's (and our) first trip to a gay sports bar - I never knew such a thing existed - to watch the Yankees/Red Sox game. After having called ahead to confirm it would be on, we found out only after ordering that the bar couldn't get the channel. Damn team-specific networks. We managed to find it after calling several other places and enjoyed watching the Yanks make quick work of our rivals. Saturday was a fun-filled and special day. It was Erin's 23rd birthday and we started it off by asking her to be Lawson's godmother. She was thrilled and told us it was "the best gift she ever received." We were touched as well and could think of no one better to entrust with our son since she has already played such a profound part in his life. Then we spent the afternoon checking out the Japanese street fair browsing stands, enjoying some beers and noodles and dodging the rain. We headed over to the mall for a stroll and got some great photos and videos of us all enjoying Lawson and the wide open space. Unfortunately with the poor weather most of the cherry blossoms had fallen off, but we still enjoyed a nice long stroll around the tidal basin toward Jefferson. We sat by the water for a while and rested our feet in the shadows of the nation's great monuments and buildings snapping some great candid photos.

That evening we went out for dinner with Erin's friends to celebrate her birthday at a tapas restaurant. We had some great small plates, a delicious steak and some champagne to mark the occasion. Since we missed a nice dinner on Friday night in lieu of the game, we got brunch reservations at Georgia Browns which Erin had been wanting to try. Unfortunately, she wasn't feeling too well (I wonder why) so Rich, Deb and I enjoyed the amazing breakfast and dessert buffet- grits, poached eggs, biscuits & gravy, country ham, red velvet cake, you name it they had it... yum. Interestingly enough the mammoth meal also includes a main course which is customarily taken home to enjoy for dinner. Score, two meals in one. On our way out of town we dropped Erin and Rich at home where Erin was finally feeling better ;-)
